Giving The Gift and Taste of Local

The Holidays are upon us! It’s a time of celebration, family, and of course the tradition of showing our appreciation for one another with small tokens or gifts. After what it seems like years since we have seen some of our closest friends and family in some circumstances, it will be a welcome sight for sore eyes to see many of our loved ones from near and far. We all know that sourcing that perfect gift for that someone special could be more challenging this year than previous with huge distribution disruptions. I think being able to support local businesses and finding a unique personal gift will go hand in hand this year. As someone who favors the local craft businesses we are privy to, I’ve been able to put together a couple local establishments/organization who make some great craft products that showcase the “taste of local.”

Little Old Wine Maker

Located Down-Town Wausau and under new ownership; Little Old Wine Maker would be a great opportunity to check off a few people on your list. They make a variety of wine on site including their holiday favorite the “Old Fashion flavored Wine!” Wine maker also has a supply shop for those that may want to try making their or wine or beer. Finally, they have a full-service gift shop including olive oils, crackers, and all those cute house hold decors.

Timekeeper Distillery

Located “near” Downtown Wausau, 1 block east of City Hall. Not only are local craft spirits a great gift, but they have put together a variety of cocktail kits to give the experience of Timekeeper in their own home. For example: the “Old-Fashion Kit” includes Luxardo cherries, bitters, whiskey of your choice, and glassware. They will also feature spirit bottle gift boxes, seltzer packages, and apparel available for pick up through-out December. Timekeeper will also be offering “batched cocktails” the week of the holiday to have custom cocktails for your holiday events. Follow them on Facebook for more information.

Helen’s Hilltop Orchard

Located just East of Merrill. Helen’s has a variety of experiences throughout the year and their Holiday offering is no different. They have a variety of baked goods, cookies, pies, and even charcuterie boxes for gifts. They are also cooking up all your holiday side dishes, soups, casseroles, and desserts! Helen’s have a Holiday open house Sunday, December 4th noon-4pm and an online store with week Saturday morning drive through.

Winter Farmers Market

Located downtown Wausau in the White Water building; they are open on Saturdays from 8am-noon. This is a great opportunity to find the perfect gift for that person that has everything! There are a variety of local vendors that produce many different products and goods. You might be interested in some local maple syrup, baked goods, sustainably raised meats, and so much more. These small businesses are made possible with your support and all your funds stay local when you patronize these and all local businesses.

Cheers!
